Mt. Nangtud Climb - The Summit Awaits (Barbaza Antique) 8.21-22.2025

 A breathtaking view captured at 8 a.m. from the ridge of Mt. Nangtud.

We may not have pushed for the summit the next day due to bad weather, but we were still blessed with a stunning sunrise at the ridge,  a definite highlight of our climb, along with the serene river trail.

This photo was taken on the second day during our backtrail, which involved several river crossings.

Shoutout to our porter and guide from Lumboyan Trekkers, who prioritized our safety above all else, even when we insisted on pushing to the summit along with the other group. It was the right call; better safe than stranded.

Day Zero (August 21)

DAY Zero

(Cebu to Iloilo, Iloilo to Barbaza, Secure Permit & Prep Food Supplies)

We arrived as early as 6 AM after taking a 4 AM flight to Iloilo. It was a straight 4-hour trip to Antique, with a quick stop at a carenderia for breakfast.

Securing the permit and coordinating with the PNP was relatively easy, as long as you had proper communication with the local guide, organizer, and porter. 

After completing the necessary municipal requirements, we purchased our food supplies at the local market located near the municipal hall.

On our way to our guide’s place to rest and prepare for the climb the next day, we had to hike nearly 2 km because our van couldn’t continue due to damaged roads.

DAY 1

(River Trek almost 10km, To Libtong, Knife edge or Ridge and to Pinggan2x Camp Site)

Ten hikers from Elite Mountaineering Society were ready to conquer and experience the breathe taking beauty of Mt. Nangtud . .

The river greeted our entire hike.

Our first river and bridge crossing, very still and quite this time.

You can wear slippers or any kind of footwear you find comfortable for a 5 hours river trekking.
